He attended the Witwatersrand Technicon where he obtained his National Diploma in Graphic Design in 1977. During this time he began lecturing Art which he continued with at the Ruth Reed Art Foundation. Free-lancing in the publishing industry as an illustrator and designer, his painterly style won him various commissions. Oil paintings for Sun International, hand-painted billboards and massive movie-sets steered him towards more conventional painting. His work is also represented at Johans Borman (Cape Town) and at the Cape Gallery. He alternates between commissions, portraiture and Gallery exhibitions and is continuing his work in observational and responsive painting. Fancois D. Maree [Frans] is op Oudtshoorn gebore en geto?.
